"But he wore a crown of office that you had not seen before: a wreath of ribbon and pearlescent leaves in his dark hair, rustling prismatically in the windless docking bay. Each leaf was intertwined with a match-sized infant fingerbone... The foetal fingerbones and leaves crowning his hair kept swaying in some nonexistent breeze." - Harrow the Ninth, chapter 6
I finished my interpretation of John's very chill and unconcerning hair accessory!
The leaves are actually large sequins, and the bones are sculpted from Fimo clay after a rather disconcerting time on PubMed looking at papers on the biometry of phalangeal growth in utero... (each leaf is 24mm, and the bones vary from 10-15mm)
#the locked tomb#john gaius#katakaluptastrophy cosplay#*through gritted teeth* I'm sure there are complex socio-cultural contexts to this in universe#The description in HTN might suggest the leaf/bone combos are attached to the ribbon#but given that it also moves on its own (!) I think a slightly more structured construction method is forgivable

listen. there are a number of aspects in which c3 and divergence are not comparable and fundamentally work differently (namely the difference in construction between a long-form campaign and 4-part mini-series), but thematically? not only are they comparable, they are designed to be. divergence is being aired directly after the conclusion of c3 in order to further explore concepts introduced in its conclusion. a world with less connection to the gods, the effect of that on the faithful, how the average exandrian approaches the concept of faith in general (in multiple aspects), the connection between the divine and their mortal children, burgeoning hope from post-war darkness, etc. these are concepts we're being asked to compare with the finale of c3. so if someone says that divergence's handling of faith and exploration of the gods blows c3's out of the water, that's valid. if we were meant to be avoiding comparisons, a) they wouldn't have aired this immediately after c3, b) there wouldn't be so many overlapping concepts, and c) they wouldn't be holding off on having the wrap-up until divergence is over. divergence is in conversation with c3, actively and intentionally, and it puts a stark contrast on how poorly faith was handled in c3, but also things like. understanding character motivation. which yes, is going to shine more strongly in short-form content because you have to get the information out quickly, but is a valid thing to discuss if you genuinely feel you understand a short-form campaign character's goals better than you do a character you spent 4 years watching. it's the difference between a woman who has never been shown to seriously engage with the gods at all stating "i don't know if i want to save gods that don't love me" and the moonweaver saying "if the love is true, it will pass through the barrier" and us knowing that divine magic will continue to be granted to mortals, by the sheer love the primes hold for their children, complex as that love might be. and, fundamentally, divergence is an exploration of consequences. the consequences of the calamity on mortals and the gods and the earth itself, decimated as it is. so when people compare it to c3, when a major complaint of the campaign was lack of follow-through and exploration of consequences, divergence shines for being about exactly what a lot of people felt c3 was missing.
#there's something to be said about divergence being used as a method to explore c3's consequences outside the context of c3#and like. not positively. because it betrays bh's ignorance of history and lack of curiosity in actually exploring either the gods'#or the common people's opinions. the moonweaver declares that the divine gate will protect exandria from any god touching it#ever again#and bh made it so that they ALL would touch exandria again. divergence shows how mortaldom could be a major boon for the gods#but also betrays how dangerous it inevitably will be for common mortals to live in a world with direct divine intervention again#by drawing comparisons it kind of feels like c3 has undone the protections put in place here. hence casting them in a negative light#and sure turning the gods mortal is the best solution that bh had at the time sure. but it is UNFORGETTABLE#that there was a way to outright kill predathos that was never so much as alluded to in the text of the campaign#unforgettable. jesus.#cr spoilers#also imo if you're like 'you can have an opinion just don't state it like a fact' you are stupid and have never read an opinion before ig#stated like a fact. well it is in fact my opinion so i'm going to state it like a fact. because it is to me#anyway#cr tag

all i've been able to imagine for the last several hours is lucanis sitting on the edge of his shitty little pantry bed in complete silence, holding an ipad and watching knife cleaning videos and harshly judging their techniques.
#he leaves detailed review comments on their methods and how to improve them#he might be autistic but he has a job(killing people) so he can't worry about that rn#this is the most attractive man in thedas#dragon age#lucanis dellamorte#datv#for context this is abt mary kirby saying he'd just watch cutlery cleaning videos instead of using social media LMAO#its an ipad because i like to imagine he'd have a flip phone if these technologies existed in thedas

Also like, sometimes not all content is for you? Sometimes the content is for the creator & they're awesome enough to SHARE it with you?
I think this is how I handle actual plays where things fall where they may. I'm not interested in what story I want, I'm excited what story the PLAYERS want
Going into media without any expectations and just wanting to hear someone tell me the story they wanna tell is literally the most exciting and freeing way to interact with media
Been doing this the last 10 years and let me tell you, I really should have done it sooner.
#I highly recommend this method of media consumption#it's way more chill & you can get JUST as involved without the same level of BETRAY and ANGER when it's not for you#you can consume within a context#and as a former “I AM TOO INVESTED IN THIS” person it helps stave that off#You can go in with hopes and if you don't get those the let down isn't as bad as EXPECTATIONS#but yeah recommend

Sometimes I'll be having a perfectly normal day and then get blindsided out of nowhere by the "Louisa May Alcott was definitely 100% a binary trans man and if you call her a woman or use she/her pronouns for her, you're transphobic" Hot Take
why couldn't that asshole have just stuck to writing racist South Park (yes, really; this person even filed the serial numbers off one story and got it published) fanfiction and left queer/trans history to the people who have an ounce of nuanced thinking or interest in the broader context of what they read
#history#louisa may alcott#queer history#you can probably tell by the fact that I'm using she/her pronouns for her#where I fall in this argument#but for further clarity my position is she might have been trans/non-binary in a modern context'#But she didn't live in a modern context and even in her own context she never made any move to transition#which was something some people did do back then!#so out of respect I will continue to acknowledge the ambiguity of her gender identity#while using the pronouns and methods of address she used for herself in life

isat’s “what should we do with dead bodies” conversation is so so catastrophic to me- and a little horrifying. there’s a range of knowing how you want to die, with Mirabelle knowing the exact religious way she would prefer to be honored, Odile giving her options & preferences that mainly align with Ka Bue’s ideals, and Isabeau not having much thought beyond the general way Vaugaurde does it. They all have thought about it, and know their options well enough that they have some sort of favor or acceptance of the way their body is handled.
And then there is Siffrin, who doesn’t have this luxury at all in multiple senses. They don’t get to know their options beyond the ones from cultures that aren’t their own, the closest we get to see being “throw my ashes into the sky” which, while definitely symbolic & feels fitting for the country’s connection to the sky above, isn’t solid enough to be coined as what the Country actually does (and still, siffrin wouldn’t personally know that death is handled that way back home). He doesn’t get to die, either, and ever be mourned for. They never see how the party responds to their death in the loops, and seeing as they assumed they would just go back to traveling alone like before at the end of the journey, possibly thought they would die alone or silently, completely unaware they would be missed.
post game as well, we never learn how people from the island honor their dead? the king never says anything about it, and it’s likely siffrin will never learn. the only difference is that, now, siffrin knows they will be missed, however they’re disposed of.
#I know this is like.. surface level observation. stating the obvious and whatnot#but it also is kinda terrifying to me?#being buried is scary- but it America it’s the default method many families use for their loved ones#the very last thing someone ever does to you being out of your hands is scary!#especially in this context where it’s cultural differences.#the country doesn’t seem to Have a method for disposing of bodies.#(that we know for certain!)#and this doesn’t really stop for siffrin either#lmk if I got anything wrong or overlooked something!#I don’t have the dialouge up while writing this… teehee.#isat#in stars and time#isat spoilers#in stars and time spoilers#my thought process died a little by the end. sigh.

Zenos viator Galvus and him trying to deal with actually feeling things for once (Even if he doesn't really understand how to handle the comfort he receives from others for it)
I am also giving this man a dad that actually cares, because this brainworm have gotten me and there is no saving me from them.
#ffxiv#sketch#zenos yae galvus#adventurer zenos#durante#zero#local man learns how to feel again... and is regretting it immensely-#as his old habits of “ignore” or “shut down” dont work that well anymore#because#at least from what I've personally looked into#unironically zenos' method of reaper contract was the smartest way to go about- he wouldnt have had the context that they used to be people#but I also write Zenos with the thought that he would abhor becoming anything like Varis-#and I dont think he'd like being directly responsible for turning another person into a weapon or a tool like how he was- intentional or no#and I think its just a neat point of tension between adventurer zenos and zero#and it just ends feeding into what I write one of his main hurdles being#his resignation that he may never change- or that he isnt worth compassion because of the circumstances he grew up in#and him being so ready to take blame and resign the possibility of apologizing because (given context) i dont doubt#that Varis had constantly blamed him for Carosa's death#and it also just gives me a bit of reasoning why him being called a monster (specifically thinking of the scene with Krile) sets him off#I also just like the idea of Durante taking him in as a hesitant mentor and accidently bonding with him- even beyond the theories I have#(and this is totally me being biased because I ADORE durante as a character)#but I think helping Zenos and the way Zenos and Wol would later interact with each other would give him a measure of peace#of being able to guide someone and be there for someone like it seemed golbez was for him#I also think zenos deserves at least one warm fatherly hug#and who better than the strange old ass voidsent who could honestly probably rotate him any moment his guard is down

been hearing rumors that the "i'm always straight" lines may have been cut from the GN and IF that is true, I expect everyone will be super mad about that--and ngl i'd mourn the loss of it too because it has become iconic to me
But. i can't believe i'm playing devils advocate for this, BUT it is not entirely unreasonable for an adaptation of this work to decide it does not want to reference Ronan's sexuality yet......coming to terms with his sexuality is (one) part of his arc in the 2nd book. Adam Parrish being ~the 2nd secret he doesn't want to admit to himself~ , Ronan's catholic guilt homoerotic nightmares and the like, all characterize his sexuality as something he might vaguely be aware of but seriously struggles to openly admit. I don't think he even uses the word gay or any other word to describe himself in the whole series? (unless I'm forgetting something?)
So, idk, it's not unreasonable to want the (hypothetical) audience to also not be aware of it until Ronan is forced to directly grapple with his identity next book.
i think this is one of those things that has become very dear to the fandom over time, but if i look at it objectively without my feelings, i just.....i do understand why someone could conceivably decide that this off-handed bitchy "he's gay btw" joke is not of dire importance for the sanctity of the story 😭 in the 'pros don't outweigh the cons' sort of way....
#like..#in context of TRB it has some plausible deniability as just a teenage boy standard 'your gay' joke#but coming from adam#someone not characterized as immature in the typical way#it can read like a genuine observation (it did to ME when I read the book the first time and I didnt even know ahead of time which/if any-#were gay) its an observation that he IS being bitchy about rn but only bc ronan was just being bitchy to blue#and like. it comes off differently from adam because he is also not straight (but idk if ronan knows that so who knows how he took it)#wish we had his pov for that moment tbh#it is my personal head canon that Ronan lynch has never officially 'come out' to anyone#'coming out' has way too much of an emotionally vulnerable connotation to it. and i think all of these teen boys would rather die-#-than be even a little emotionally sincere on purpose. td3 said ronan thinks hes the only queer person at his school mind you#and with all the catholic guilt he has about it?? i dont think he is secure enough to openly talk about it#i always imagined Adam and /probably/ gansey have had to put two-and-two together over time on their own#any time the topic of girls or dating casually comes up i imagine ronan glaring into the distance / avoiding the question /changing subject#b/c he does not want to lie but he does not want to say anything else either so he says nothing#and his silence is so loud that his friends just. make some natural guesses#i think THAT would be his only plausible method of 'coming out'#ronan's sexuality is other peoples problem he is sure af not going to talk about it. that feels the most in character to me#(at least at this stage in his life-- while he's an insecure teenager)#yarrow reads trc 2.0#yarrow reads trc#the raven cycle#the raven cycle graphic novel#forgive me i am not like. invalidating whatever deeply personal relationship someone may have with 'thats the biggest lie you ever told'#its just my onion i swear its not some kind of 'gotcha'#i was really surprised by the extreme emotional attachment so many people apparently have with 'hey tiger'#a line i would've assumed was changed for no reason deeper than just 'sounding kind of awkward and unnatural'#but the dissertations ive read on it in the past couple days..apparently i underestimate the emotional toll of any given quote in this book#i dont envy anyone who tries to adapt it lmao

( just found out that rid2015 confirmed cybertronian sign language (NOT!!! CHIROLINGUISTICS!!!) and yeah. im gonna take that and run with it. )
#admin babbles#NOT shitting on chirolinguistics btw i think its VERY very cool#however i do think soundwave would struggle with chirolinguistics for many many reasons#1. it only has three fingers and a thumb#2. it only has two joints on each finger#(the middle knuckle and the knuckle that connects the finger to the hand)#3. its hands are MUCH MUCH larger compared to most other's.#i think that sign language would be much easier for it depending on how much emphasis it has on finer movements#the gifs i saw relied on big full body movements vs the hands being the main communication method and the body providing context#im also v passionate about sign language in general and i really want to become fluent in it#anyway. im making soundwave use sign language now

Ngl definitely thinking back to the cartoon-making chapter now we know that Twilight doesn't realise studying/pursuit of knowledge can be fun. No wonder the cartoon he made sucked. He was approaching it purely from the educational angle with zero idea of the entertainment aspect that makes edutainment programming effective.
It's not that he was really bad at writing the fun parts. He plain didn't realise there were meant to be any in the first place for it to work.
Copying the aesthetics with no understanding of what was underneath.
#like yeah you could tell the first time around he had all his priorities wrong but with the added context from the latest chapters#you realise just how ridiculously off base he was#spy x family#sxf manga spoilers#anyway something about how he's tried to adapt his teachings for anya to some extent but a mix of anya's upbringing + his own has stymied#this. anya doesn't do well with 'traditional' study methods + has associations with those but also loid thinks what worked for him could#work for her. and he's (as he spells out) learnt purely for survival. it's a very different situation + anya doesn't /have/ to.#but loid has tried. yuri has tried. both with varying levels of success for all their missing info on anya. until finally siggy's approach.#sth sth community to raise a child but also different teaching styles but also being willing to meet on anya's level.#making positive associations with learning rather than the negative ones everyone else has

back when i was like 11 i came across roko's basilisk for the first time (memory says i was like 11 and it was on neopets but i could have been 15 and on tumblr), anyway i definitely recall that my reaction to reading about this god-ai was to make a promise that, if i ever got into computing, then sure, i wouldn't get in the way of anyone trying to make a god-ai
and then i went back to playing turmac roll or whatever
and now i get to learn about how a whole bunch of very online people broke one another on a fundamental level by getting really wrapped up in the whole idea to the point that they kinda forgot how to function?
and i definitely could have ended up following that kind of path the same way i almost fell down the gamergate pipeline or one of the other weird Very Online pipelines that end with people fundamentally broken in a very particular way
and i'm very glad i didn't
#behind the bastards#rationalism#roko's basilisk#i also definitely read the first few chapters of Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality around the same time#and at the time i thought it was just going over my head the way some books did#(when the language is technically within your grasp but the context and concepts are not)#but in retrospect it was very badly written and i dodged a cannonball
